“A Quiet Moment Remembered” – Rediscovering a Gatefold Card with Heart

During a quiet photo scroll, I found something unexpected—a gatefold card I crafted years ago using soft colors, intentional ink blending, and a belly band that held more than paper. It held presence. I remember the emotion behind this card more than the steps. And now, I’m piecing those steps back together to share with you—not as a tutorial, but as a gentle invitation to return to calm.

At the center is the serene Calm & Quiet lakeside stamp image, with the sentiment “You’re in my thoughts” from Seasonal Branches. Surrounding it is a halo of blended color, layered with a circle punch and brushstrokes of Lemon Lime Twist, Fresh Freesia, Bubble Bath, Blueberry Bushel, Azure Afternoon, Misty Moonlight, and Memento Black. It’s a technique born of instinct more than precision.

Opening the card reveals a white insert bordered with Lemon Lime Twist—clean and bright. The lower left corner glows with softly blended circles of pink, blue, yellow, and green. Overlaid are simple black floral sketches and a sweet bird image, stamped to echo the peaceful theme. It feels curated, but not constrained—an invitation to linger.

    • Lemon Lime Twist: card base & belly band

  • DSP: Bright & Beautiful 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper
  • Circle punch (used to mask/blend color over image)

📏 Measurements (in cm)

  • Card Base (gatefold): 29.7 cm x 14.8 cm, scored at 7.4 cm and 22.3 cm
  • Central Panel (white): 10 cm x 7 cm
  • Matting Layer (Lemon Lime Twist): 10.5 cm x 7.5 cm
  • Belly Band: 3.5 cm x 25 cm
  • DSP panels: two pieces trimmed to 14.3 cm x 7 cm (for the gatefold flaps)
  • Inside Panel: 13.8 cm x 9.5 cm (Basic White insert)

🖌️ Step-by-Step Instructions

1️⃣ Create Your Card Base
Cut Lemon Lime Twist cardstock to 29.7 cm x 14.8 cm. Score at 7.4 cm and 22.3 cm to form a symmetrical gatefold. Burnish the folds with a bone folder.

2️⃣ Decorate the Front Panels
Trim two pieces of Bright & Beautiful DSP to 14.3 cm x 7 cm. Adhere them to each gatefold flap.

3️⃣ Stamp & Blend the Central Panel
Stamp the Calm & Quiet scene on Basic White cardstock (10 cm x 7 cm) using Memento Black. Add the sentiment. Use a circle punch to mask and softly layer colors with your blending brush. Mat with Lemon Lime Twist cardstock and set aside.

4️⃣ Build the Belly Band
Cut a strip of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock (3.5 cm x 25 cm). Wrap it loosely around your closed card and adhere it at the back. Mount your image panel onto the belly band.

5️⃣ Complete the Inside
Trim Basic White cardstock to 13.8 cm x 9.5 cm. In the lower left corner, blend Lemon Lime Twist, Fresh Freesia, Bubble Bath, and Blueberry Bushel in overlapping circles. Stamp floral elements and a bird image in Memento Black for contrast. Adhere this panel inside the card.
