A Walk Back in Time: Rediscovering One of My First Thank You Cards

Scrolling through old photographs sometimes feels like leafing through chapters of your own story—those quiet moments that speak louder with time. That’s exactly how I found myself face to face with this card again. It was nestled between snapshots of smudged ink pads, scribbled layouts, and catalog pages marked with hope. This wasn’t just a project—it was a beginning.

I had just stepped into the world as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, heart racing with anticipation. I was unsure of myself but utterly lit up by possibility. And this card—created in those first tender weeks—holds the spirit of that time. It carries the courage of trying, the joy of discovering, and the gratitude I felt for those who encouraged me to leap.

Inspired by Angela Palmer’s layered layouts, I felt the pull toward creating something textured yet heartfelt. Her approach to patterned paper was like quilting with intention—where every piece had purpose, every contrast told a story. So I reached for the DANDY DESIGNS 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper, and let that rhythm guide me. The result was a thank you card that spoke in quiet layers and subtle shifts—simple in technique, but rich in meaning.

This wasn’t just a card—it was my way of saying, “I’m here. I’m creating. I’m grateful.”

Basic Supplies & Creative Companions

To recreate this heartfelt thank you card—one of my very first as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator—you’ll need a few trusted essentials and some small but mighty tools that bring each detail to life:

      • Night of Navy cardstock

            • Cut to 14.9 cm x 21 cm, scored at 10.5 cm to create the base

        • Basic White cardstock

              • Two panels sized 10 cm x 13.8 cm for the front and interior

          • DANDY DESIGNS 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (DSP)

                • One panel 10 cm x 13.8 cm, sliced into 3 vertical strips

                • Middle strip flipped to reveal the reverse side for contrast

                • Diagonal accent strip: approx. 5–6 cm wide x 19 cm long using the reverse pattern of the DSP

            • Sentiment Layering

                  • Deckled Rectangles die-cuts from Basic White and Balmy Blue scraps, adhered at a slight angle for added texture

                  • Stamped with “Thank You” from the Everyday Greetings stamp set

              • Interior Details

                • DSP Strip 1: 4 cm x 10 cm, placed 3 cm from the bottom edge of the interior white panel

                • DSP Strip 2: 3 cm x 10 cm, slightly overlapping Strip 1 by about 1 cm for depth and rhythm

🛠️ Essential Tools That Made It Possible

                  • Paper Trimmer — for precision cuts and clean diagonal accents

                  • Bone Folder — to score and crease the card base smoothly

                  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue — for secure, flexible adhesion

                  • Stampin’ Dimensionals — to lift the sentiment and add subtle shadowing and movement

                Front Design & Technique

                    • I trimmed the DSP to 10 cm x 13.8 cm and sliced it vertically into three equal strips.

                    • The middle panel flips to show the reverse side of the paper, adding visual contrast and playful symmetry.

                    • The card base is made from Night of Navy cardstock, sized 14.9 cm x 21 cm, scored at 10.5 cm to fold in half.

                    • On the white front layer, I placed a diagonal accent band (approx. 5–6 cm x 19 cm) using the reverse side of the DSP. I flipped the card so the white layer faced up and trimmed the excess DSP using my paper trimmer, ensuring clean edges.

🖋 For the sentiment, I layered Basic White and Balmy Blue cardstock using the Deckled Rectangles dies—angling them slightly to add depth. The “Thank You” from Everyday Greetings was the perfect stamp: simple, sincere, and full of heart.

                  💌 Interior Steps

Inside, I kept things simple but added layered warmth to echo the front:

                      1. Cut a Basic White panel to 10 cm x 13.8 cm and adhere it to the inside of the card.

                      1. Position the 4 cm x 10 cm DSP strip about 3 cm up from the bottom edge of the white cardstock.

                      1. Overlap it with the 3 cm x 10 cm DSP strip, placing it so it slightly overlaps the bottom strip by about 1 cm.

                    1. This layered technique gives the interior a subtle lift—a finishing touch that brings balance and continuity.
