Donna Healing’s First Creative Stampers Team Swap Card Changed My Mind About Crisp Cantaloupe

This week, I am taking a closer look at a card created by Donna Healing.
This card is extra special because it was Donna’s very first team swap with the Creative Stampers team for May 2026.
Donna shared that she CASEd her card from Karen Hadler.
CASE can mean “Copy And Share Everything” or “Copy And Selectively Edit.” In simple words, it means using another creator’s project as inspiration and then creating your own version.
The first thing that caught my attention was the colour.
I will be honest.
Crisp Cantaloupe has not been one of my favourite 2026–2028 In Colors.
But after seeing Donna’s card, I may have changed my mind.
There is something about the way Donna used the colour with the Bloom Boutiques Designer Series Paper that feels soft, balanced, and fresh. The card has a gentle warmth without feeling too bright or too strong.
That surprised me.
Sometimes a colour does not win us over on its own.
Sometimes it needs the right project.
And this card may have been that project for me.
Let’s Take a Closer Look
Donna used Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock, Bloom Boutiques Designer Series Paper, 2026–2028 In Color Flat Pearls, the Nature’s Symphony Stamp Set and Dies, and the Spotlight on Nature Dies.
The Nature’s Symphony Stamp Set and Dies are available as a bundle, or they can be purchased separately.
The Spotlight on Nature Dies are also current as of 22 June 2026.
What really drew me in was the circle feature on the front of the card.
I believe Donna may have mounted strips of Bloom Boutiques Designer Series Paper onto Window Sheet before die-cutting the circle with one of the Spotlight on Nature Dies.
I have not seen this idea used before.
That is probably why I kept looking at it.
The strips of Designer Series Paper create colour and pattern, but the Window Sheet makes the circle feel light and open. Instead of a solid circle, there are little clear spaces between the strips.
That gives the card a floating feeling.
It feels clever without looking complicated.
It also gives the leaves room to shine.
Let’s Explore the Card Front
The card front has a lovely balance between soft colour, detailed pattern, and clean white space.
The Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock creates a warm frame around the main design.
The white layer keeps the card feeling fresh and gives the eye somewhere to rest.
The striped Designer Series Paper circle becomes the focal point, but it does not overpower the card. The different paper strips add interest, while the die-cut circle shape keeps everything contained and balanced.
The leaf die cuts are what make the design really pop.
They appear to float over the circle, adding movement, height, and texture.
I love the way the leaves stretch beyond the circle shape. That small detail helps the design feel more natural and less boxed in.
The pearls add a soft finishing touch.
They bring in a little shine without distracting from the main design.
Everything feels calm, balanced, and thoughtfully placed.
Let’s Take a Look at the Details
One of the most interesting details is the way the Designer Series Paper appears to be used with the Window Sheet.
Window Sheet is a clear plastic sheet. It can be used for shaker cards, windows, clear layers, and other creative techniques.
In this card, I believe it may have been used as a base to hold the strips of Designer Series Paper together before die-cutting.
That is my best guess from looking at the card.
If that is how Donna created it, it is a very clever way to use small strips of paper.
It would also be a great way to use Designer Series Paper scraps.
Instead of throwing away narrow strips, they could become part of a beautiful focal point.
That is the kind of idea I love.
It is practical.
It is creative.
And it makes the most of supplies.
The inside of the card is also beautifully finished.
Donna continued the design inside by adding a strip of Designer Series Paper with a Crisp Cantaloupe border.
This helps the inside feel connected to the front of the card.
There is still plenty of white space for writing a personal message, which makes the card practical as well as pretty.
A Little Takeaway for You
One of the lessons I took from Donna’s card is that a colour we are unsure about can look completely different when it is used in the right design. Crisp Cantaloupe was not a colour I felt naturally drawn to. But in this card, it works. The colour feels soft and warm. The Designer Series Paper adds interest. The white space keeps everything clear. The leaves add contrast and movement. The Window Sheet idea adds something unexpected. Together, those choices changed how I saw the colour. You might like to try: Using a colour you are unsure about in a small amount Pairing a softer colour with plenty of white space Adding Designer Series Paper strips to create a focal point Using Window Sheet as a base for paper strips Die-cutting a shape from your paper-strip panel Adding leaves or flowers over the top for movement Decorating the inside of the card to match the front Sometimes the colours we avoid are simply waiting for the right project.
Tip
When using Designer Series Paper strips, try arranging them on a scrap piece first before gluing. This lets you see how the colours and patterns work together. You can place similar colours apart from each other, balance busy patterns with calmer ones, and decide which strips should sit near the centre of the design. If you want to try the Window Sheet idea, glue the strips onto the Window Sheet first. Let the glue dry properly. Then die-cut your shape. This may help the strips stay together and create that clear, floating look.
Start Simple, Explore, and See What Happens
This card is a wonderful reminder that a project does not need to be complicated to be interesting.
A few strips of Designer Series Paper.
A die-cut circle.
Some layered leaves.
A soft colour base.
A few pearls.
That is enough to create a card that feels fresh, unique, and full of detail.
I think the magic is in the combination.
The card uses simple pieces, but the way they are arranged makes the design feel special.
That is one of the things I enjoy most about card making.
Sometimes a small idea becomes the detail that makes the whole card memorable.

Why This Design Works
This design works because the focal point is clear.
The die-cut circle immediately draws the eye.
The strips of Bloom Boutiques Designer Series Paper create pattern and colour, while the Window Sheet gives the circle a lighter, more open feeling.
The Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock frames the design and brings warmth to the card.
The Basic White layer keeps the card clean and prevents the patterns from becoming too busy.
The leaf die cuts add contrast, shape, and movement.
They also help break up the circle, making the design feel more natural and less flat.
