Made by Linda Barnes
Some birthdays deserve a little extra magic, and when it came to celebrating my niece Courtney’s 21st, I wanted to craft something truly meaningful. Courtney has adored pandas for as long as I can remember—there’s just something about their gentle nature and playful spirit that speaks to her heart. So, I knew that Stampin’ Up!’s Wild and Sweet stamp set—featuring a beautifully detailed panda amidst serene greenery—would be the perfect focal point for her card.
A Design That Speaks to the Heart
Every card tells a story, and this one is a celebration of both Courtney’s passions and the joy of handmade creations. The color palette is deeply personal—purple, her favorite color, adds elegance, while green brings a fresh and natural harmony. The combination of textured paper and layered elements gives the card depth, making it not just a gift, but a cherished keepsake.
To enhance the natural beauty of the design, I paired the soft floral patterns of Dainty Flowers DSP with the rich tones of Gorgeous Grape. The layering of die-cut shapes, along with subtle distressing using the Deckled Rectangle Dies, adds a handmade touch that echoes the organic feel of the panda illustration.
Thoughtful Details & Sentimental Touches
One of my favorite parts of crafting is the ability to add personalized elements that make a card truly one-of-a-kind. This card includes a dedicated space for a personal message, ensuring that Courtney can feel the warmth of the heartfelt wishes written inside. Whether it’s reminiscing over childhood memories or celebrating the exciting future ahead, that blank space offers an opportunity to turn the card into a lasting keepsake.
To make the card even more special, I experimented with ink blending techniques to subtly enhance the panda’s surroundings. A gentle wash of Basic Grey ink helps ground the stamped image, bringing out the details of its fur while maintaining the soft, nature-inspired aesthetic.
