Six heartfelt cards by Shelia Moreton
Crafting is more than paper and ink—it’s healing, storytelling, and connection. When I injured my shoulder in early May, tearing my pec muscle, I found myself unable to create the way I’m used to. The healing process has been long and slow, and crafting became something I had to approach gently, with more patience and care.
But the beauty of being part of the Creative Stampers team is never having to walk that road alone. When I shared what was happening, my wonderful teammates—kind, generous, and endlessly talented—stepped forward with open hearts. Shelia Moreton, in particular, offered to keep the creative spark alive by designing a series of sunflower-themed cards using the Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder from Stampin’ Up! Her work brings light, texture, and emotion to every corner of this series. I’m deeply grateful for her help—and honored to share these creations with you.
🌼 Card One: A Birthday Bloom
Shelia’s first card is pure celebration. She used the embossed side of the Sunflower 3D folder to create a sculpted sunflower that almost feels alive. She colored the leaves with Old Olive Blends, adding depth and warmth. The center of the flower glows with Daffodil Delight, softly applied with a dauber, and hints of Lemon Lolly brushed on top. She sealed the shimmer with Wink of Stella, mixed with ink to highlight the grooves.
The card’s foundation—a likely Old Olive base paired with a black mat—grounds the design and frames the flower in elegance. A bold “Happy Birthday” greeting finishes the card with joy. Shelia’s intentional layering of color and light turns this embossed piece into a celebration of hope and generosity.
🌅 Card Two: Early Light
In the second birthday card, Shelia reversed the technique and used the debossed side of the folder. The sunflower gently sinks into the cardstock, like a bloom touched by morning light. The leaves are softly blended in Old Olive, while Daffodil Delight and Lemon Lolly give the petals a bright, cheerful energy.
Wink of Stella adds sparkle to the sunken lines, creating contrast between shadow and shine. An Old Olive base paired with a black mat gives structure, and the clean white sentiment panel, edged in green, offers a crisp “Happy Birthday” that feels bright but balanced. There’s tenderness in every brushstroke—a quiet celebration that feels like a hug in card form.
🌬️ Card Three: Sunlight and Silence
This third card speaks gently. Shelia returned to debossing, bringing rich depth to the sunflower motif. The color story—Secret Sea and Darling Duckling—paints a scene that’s thoughtful and a little nostalgic, like a summer field under changing skies.
Shelia added texture by wiping ink across the top of the white card base, giving the surface a soft, weathered feel. This card doesn’t include a sentiment, which makes space for reflection. It invites the viewer to bring their own emotions—grief, hope, or quiet joy. It’s a card that holds space and stillness.
🐅 Card Four: Bold Contrast
The fourth card is vibrant and grounded. Shelia pairs Old Olive with the bold warmth of Timid Tiger on a white base, all framed with a sharp black mat. The contrast is striking—nature-inspired and alive.
The sunflower shines with earthy undertones and bright accents, echoing shadows and sunshine in equal measure. This card balances power and softness, and would be perfect for expressing encouragement or strength. I imagine it as a turning point in the series—a confident step forward.
💜 Card Five: Grateful Texture
This thank-you card carries vintage charm and expressive depth. Shelia started with a Pretty Pink base and layered it with a Secret Sea mat. The focal point—a two-tone Blackberry Bliss cardstock panel—was embossed and then softly sanded, revealing lighter plum tones beneath.
The technique creates texture you can almost feel—like petals glowing under filtered light. A rustic tag, tied with twine and rhinestones, adds heartfelt detail. The result is moody yet gentle, like a whispered thank-you with meaning behind every mark.
🌸 Card Six: Quiet Elegance
Shelia’s final card in the series uses debossing again, pressing the sunflower gently into the paper like an old memory. She chose a Pretty in Pink base and Blackberry Stampin’ Up! paper, sanding the design to bring out softer raspberry tones.
A round “thank you” tag tied with ribbon and adorned with rhinestones gives the card a sweet, reflective finish. It’s quieter than the others—tender, introspective, and perfect for moments of quiet appreciation.
💬 Gratitude That Blooms
Shelia’s sunflower series is more than beautiful design—it’s an expression of friendship and support that runs deep. I’m so grateful for her creativity, and for all the love and encouragement from the Creative Stampers team. When life makes it hard to craft, their kindness reminds me that artistry can still flourish.
Thank you, Shelia, for walking beside me during this time, for making art that uplifts, and for helping keep this space warm and alive.
