The Fan-tastic Flair: A Twisted Card Full of Joy and Movement

Have you ever dreamed of crafting a card that feels like it’s dancing right off the page? This vibrant twist-fold design might be just what you’re looking for! I created this joyful piece earlier this year for our Creative Inker Team Swap, celebrating Stampin’ Up!’s Sale-A-Bration (January–February 2025). It features the exuberant Dance with Me stamp set—a free reward during the promotion—and a playful fan-inspired fold, sparked by Julanne Richards’ August 2023 YouTube tutorial.
Whether you’re new to cardmaking or simply craving something fresh and expressive, this project is a celebration of movement, colour, and creative delight. Let’s explore it together!

🎭 Design Highlights


This card blends elegance and whimsy with a twisted fan focal point mounted on a sturdy easel pop-up base. The fan doesn’t open—it’s a fixed, layered composition that gives the illusion of motion and festivity.

  • Background: A cheerful Melon Mambo pink embossed with the Dotted Circles 3D folder sets the rhythm. Over this, soft ink blending in Lemon Lime Twist, Pumpkin Pie, Gorgeous Grape, Azure Afternoon, and Melon Mambo creates a handmade DSP that radiates joy.
  • Focal Point: At the heart of the fan, a pair of dancers from Dance with Me embrace in warm tones—Petal Pink, Crumb Cake, Ivory, and Pecan Pie—brought to life with Stampin’ Blends.
  • Sentiment: “You’ll always be the one for me” from Bee My Valentine adds a tender finishing touch.
  • Structure: The easel pop-up base allows the card to stand upright, transforming it into a display piece full of colour, texture, and heartfelt movement.

✨ Techniques That Bring It to Life


Twisted Fan Element
This layered fan shape adds a burst of energy frozen in time. It’s surprisingly simple to construct—just a few well-placed folds and layers—and it creates a dynamic focal point that feels celebratory and alive.
Embossed & Inked Background
To make the background truly special, I created my own DSP using the Dotted Circles 3D embossing folder. After embossing Basic White cardstock, I softly layered ink over the raised texture with blending brushes. This technique adds depth and rhythm, and it’s a great way to stretch your supplies.
Alcohol Marker Colouring
The dancers were coloured using Stampin’ Blends in both light and dark tones. Layering Petal Pink, Crumb Cake, Ivory, and Pecan Pie adds warmth and dimension. If you’re new to alcohol markers, start with light strokes and build gradually—this technique is forgiving and expressive.
Ink Blending for Mood
The joyful palette—Lemon Lime Twist, Pumpkin Pie, Gorgeous Grape, Azure Afternoon, and Melon Mambo—creates a soft, celebratory glow across the fan layers. Blending brushes make this technique fun and intuitive, and every result is uniquely yours.
